Nine-Time Olympic Gold Medal Winner Carl Lewis Highlights 51st Annual AAU Junior Olympic Games Opening Ceremony 

Former world’s fastest man will address youth athletes during Celebration of Athletes for world’s largest multi-sport event; Decorated U.S. Olympian will be available to media

WHAT: Nine-time Olympic gold medalist and AAU Track and Field alum Carl Lewis will highlight the 51st annual AAU Junior Olympic Games Opening Ceremony this weekend at Rynearson Stadium at Eastern Michigan University. Lewis, along with successful athletes like Jackie Joyner Kersee and Greg Louganis, participated in the Games as youth athletes.

More than 15,000 athletes and 30,000 spectators are in town this week for the AAU Junior Olympic Games, the largest national multi-sport event for youth in the United States, and have brought more than $50 million in economic impact to previous host cities since 2010. The 10-day event, which began on July 27, features 18 sports competitions, including the AAU’s marquee track and field event at Eastern Michigan University on July 29-August 5.
