With national records shattered and thrilling photo finishes, the 2024 AAU Junior Olympic Games were packed with unforgettable moments.GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA (August 6, 2024) -- With national records shattered and thrilling photo finishes, the 2024 AAU Junior Olympic Games were packed with unforgettable moments. From impressive board breaks and record breaks, dazzling somersaults to lightning-fast hand performances, every second of the event showcased incredible athleticism.
Around 15,000 athletes brought the heat across 11 days of competition during the 58th AAU Junior Olympic Games in Greensboro, North Carolina. There were 41 states represented as well as D.C., Puerto Rico, Korea, and China.
Twelve different sports were featured throughout the two-week event, including trampoline and tumbling, gymnastics, swimming, karate, baton twirling, dance, sport stacking, taekwondo, jump rope, fencing, field hockey, and track and field.
The Greensboro Coliseum Complex hosted the indoor events, featuring board breaking in taekwondo, weapons forms in karate, synchronized trampoline, and baton twirling. Meanwhile, track and field competitions were held at NC A&T, and field hockey took place at Wake Forest University. Together, these venues fostered a vibrant atmosphere rich in excitement and camaraderie.
This year marked a historical milestone for the AAU Junior Olympic Games as dance was included in the lineup of events for the first time. This exciting addition showcased a variety of styles, allowing young athletes to demonstrate their skills and creativity on a prominent stage. The inclusion of dance not only broadened the scope of the competition but also emphasized the importance of artistic expression in athleticism, fostering a greater appreciation for the diverse talents of the participants.
The energy remained high as we approached our final days, with 12,000 athletes competing in track and field at North Carolina A&T. An impressive 29 records were broken, including multiple athletes and teams who surpassed their own previous records from earlier in the meet.
The AAU Junior Olympic Games will return to Greensboro in 2029 and 2033. Next up is Houston for the 59th AAU junior Olympic games in 2025.
